4G KPI – Accessibility (RRC) related timers

Accessibility is one of the key performance indicator in providing services to end-users by giving access to the network in an appropriate manner.

During access part, first key process comes into picture is RRC connection setup and timers associated with it.

T300 (UE timer) starts when RRC connection request is sent and stops when RRC connection is setup or rejected. Once the T300 expires, if the number of retransmissions is less than N300, then RRC connection request is retransmitted else connection request fails, and UE enters the idle mode. Increasing the value of T300 helps to improve access success rate but may impact NW attach time.

T301 is used when the UE is unable to successfully RACH when trying to send RRC connection reestablishment. T301 starts when RRC connection re-establishment request is sent and stops when RRC connection re-establishment is setup or rejected. If T301 expires UE will go to RRC idle state. Increasing the value of T301 helps to improve access success rate as UE will have more time for cell selection. Decreasing the value of T301 will reduce the possibility of successful RRC re‐establishment.
