4G LTE Frame Structure
In 4G LTE, resources in air interfaces are allocated in time domain, which is called frame. Frame consists of 10 equally-sized 1 ms subframes each and hence makes a total frame length of 10ms.
Each subframe consists of two equally sized and consecutive 0.5 ms slots.
Each slot in turn consists of a number of OFDM symbols which can be either seven (normal cyclic prefix) or six (extended cyclic prefix). For a normal cyclic prefix, the first symbol has a cyclic prefix lengths of 5.2 μs. The remaining six OFDM symbols have a cyclic prefix of length 4.7 μs.
Allocation of resources in frequency domain happens in terms of Resource blocks (RB). Each RB consists of 12 subcarrier & each subcarrier is made of 15KHz. Any subcarrier at a particular OFDM symbol is termed as resource element (RE).
